============================================================== Guild: DallasMakerspace Channel: SIGs / sewing-sig ============================================================== [6/24/2019 6:43 PM] canibalcrab @judy Kriehn done [6/24/2019 6:43 PM] sewingstuff2561 Squad [6/24/2019 6:45 PM] judykriehn3727 Thanks @pearce [6/24/2019 6:53 PM] judykriehn3727 Sewing peeps! If you are available on Thursday evening at 7 pm, the Sewing SIG will be meeting to (a) elect a new SIG leader and (b) talk about objectives once we have new dedicated space. [6/24/2019 6:53 PM] mizgeek -hands out cookies- [6/24/2019 6:55 PM] judykriehn3727 So far, Beth Appleton and I are running for SIG leader. If anybody else wants to run, please announce your intention to do so here and on TALK. [6/24/2019 6:55 PM] mizgeek I know this is important. This week is one of Wayne’s biggest gigs of the year (lighting A-Kon). I have tentative permission to leave. For this one event. [6/24/2019 6:55 PM] mizgeek I haz to be there now. [6/24/2019 6:56 PM] mizgeek Team Judy [6/24/2019 7:03 PM] sewingstuff2561 Yeah I will for sure be there [6/24/2019 7:03 PM] sewingstuff2561 Team Judy! [6/24/2019 7:26 PM] doug.emes Team yall are great folks and the sig would be empowered with either! [6/24/2019 8:34 PM] mizgeek Of course! It’s just nice to have a real election rather than a battle to say “Not it!” first. 😁 [6/24/2019 9:22 PM] judykriehn3727 #wedontneednoproxywar [6/25/2019 9:08 AM] kenpurcell Cannot wait for the sewing sig to have their new workspace. We should finally have our third quote to re-level the CA floor. Thanks for your patience! [6/25/2019 12:37 PM] stephenie. OMG. Three quotes! Thank you to whoever is overseeing this for demonstrating due diligence. [6/25/2019 3:28 PM] shdragon Oooh, we we getting a dedicated space in CA? That will be awesome. 😃 [6/25/2019 4:14 PM] judykriehn3727 The room formerly known as Digital Media is earmarked for Sewing. The computer-graphic-output stuff like the vinyl cutter, dye sublimation, silhouette cameo, etc. will be in the room formerly known as the Conference Room, and the rest of CA will be in the space formerly known as the Common Room. Yee ha! {Reactions} 🤠 (6) [6/26/2019 10:59 PM] shdragon I only worry about that room being a bit small (The most annoying thing was finding a big enough table for cutting fabric), but getting a room will be awesome anyway. 😃 [6/26/2019 11:27 PM] yashsedai @stephenie that would be me with the three quotes {Reactions} 💯 (2) [6/27/2019 7:54 AM] kenpurcell Thank you Freddy. I know we decided to go with the two but better that we have three. [6/27/2019 1:04 PM] judykriehn3727 It’s not a bad-sized room. I think once we can put the ping-pong cutting table into actual play, it’ll be a happy place. [6/27/2019 1:13 PM] mizgeek It just needs to be organized well. Like my home sewing room, go vertical as much as possible. Let no open space lay fallow. 😁 [6/27/2019 2:01 PM] stansimmons2031 The floor guys are working on the concrete in the new CA room {Reactions} 👌 (3) 💜 (2) [6/27/2019 4:26 PM] lavarocks. Ahhhhhjhjhhhjjjdjdhdodbendixhs [6/27/2019 4:27 PM] lavarocks. That is so exciting [6/27/2019 4:27 PM] lavarocks. I hate that floor... [6/27/2019 4:27 PM] doug.emes Anyone taking photos videos anything [6/27/2019 4:27 PM] lavarocks. And cant wait to cover it up [6/27/2019 4:28 PM] lavarocks. Doug you probably still have the DTs from that floor scraper [6/27/2019 4:51 PM] stansimmons2031 The video system is recording {Reactions} 👌 [7/3/2019 5:13 PM] stephenie. At the Smithsonian {Reactions} 😀 [7/3/2019 5:42 PM] mizgeek So cool! [7/3/2019 7:17 PM] stephenie. So many tiny pieces. I wish I'd paid attention to when it was made. [7/3/2019 7:28 PM] mizgeek Who made it? [7/3/2019 7:29 PM] stephenie. [7/3/2019 7:37 PM] stephenie. The Smithsonian has been digitizing their collections. This turned out to be an easy search. [7/3/2019 7:38 PM] stephenie. But their photo doesn't do the actual quilt justice. [7/3/2019 7:38 PM] stephenie. Of course neither does mine [7/3/2019 7:38 PM] judykriehn3727 I have a pattern that has the same vibe. But I don’t think it involves Diamonds [7/3/2019 7:40 PM] judykriehn3727 Changing subject. What happened to papering the space with state fair entry exhortations of greatness? [7/3/2019 8:36 PM] stephenie. No paper in printer [7/3/2019 8:39 PM] stephenie. + calculating % of classes per host committee (no direct way to ask event database) + am spending week in Our Nation's Capitol [7/3/2019 8:42 PM] stephenie. + dead AC + dying guinea pig. [7/3/2019 8:44 PM] stephenie. Is James visiting committee meetings? [7/3/2019 9:57 PM] judykriehn3727 dead ac=good reason to leave town. [7/3/2019 9:57 PM] judykriehn3727 Didn't know James was going to visit meetings? He didn't come to Sewing SIG, but then that's not a committee. [7/3/2019 9:58 PM] judykriehn3727 Condolences on guinea pig. I'm feeling the pressure with my senior citizen dog... [7/3/2019 10:00 PM] mizgeek Condolences on the AC and guinea pig. 😢 [7/3/2019 10:11 PM] stephenie. Thank you. Annie Webb put up a brave fight for 3 weeks before she went to her Maker. {Reactions} 😢 [7/3/2019 10:12 PM] stephenie. She is missed by her companion Nancy of 6+ years and her forever family. [7/3/2019 10:44 PM] judykriehn3727 I'll be at space Friday for sure, so will try to do some poster plastering. {Reactions} 💯 [7/4/2019 9:59 PM] lavarocks. Whatcha gonna poster? This is James Henningson's baby. [7/4/2019 10:16 PM] stephenie. Judy made the poster and I created a Talk thread. [7/4/2019 10:16 PM] stephenie. I couldn't put up posters around space. [7/4/2019 10:19 PM] stephenie. I am totally in for this!!!! Entering 3 prints in different categories: printmaking, Valentine's, New Year's. Don't even have to make something new. Got stuff I made in during the eligibility window. No mad dash to the finish line. [7/4/2019 10:24 PM] stephenie. Just gave the thread a bump [7/4/2019 11:45 PM] judykriehn3727 I made three different posters, actually. Note to self. Take the laptop and your own paper just in case tomorrow. And scotch tape. That would be important too. #wearyofbluetape [7/4/2019 11:46 PM] canibalcrab we got more paper [7/4/2019 11:46 PM] stephenie. You made 3 posters. Three great posters. [7/4/2019 11:58 PM] judykriehn3727 I’m making a new thing. Embroidery on a hand-dyed pocket apron. If the bob ross Quilt is rejected before the fair entry deadline, I can add that as well. Might be able to enter the quilt I made Larry’s aunt Becky. Hmmm. [7/4/2019 11:58 PM] stephenie. Who's this Larry? [7/5/2019 12:25 AM] draco_the_drake Larry the cable guy? {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/596572220399157260/larry-cable-guy-main.jpg?ex=67b95fad&is=67b80e2d&hm=cd9cf355611acc5a95ef3d3d425fdc3043b7aea58838bc301ba738b79010c5e1& [7/5/2019 12:25 AM] draco_the_drake Sorry .. I'll butt out ... haha [7/5/2019 9:03 AM] lavarocks. Larry the boyfriend [7/5/2019 9:32 AM] judykriehn3727 Larry Curtis. Aka ioport something on TALK. A couple of years ago, we went up to Maine in October for a week to (a) see the fall leaves and (b) visit with his relatives, who are mostly in their eighties and nineties. We stayed with one of the Uncle Donny’s (one on his dads side of family) and his wife Becky. I decided to make her a quilt. I had planned to just do a simple lap quilt, but it kinda got outta hand and turned into a bed-size quilt. [7/12/2019 6:35 PM] judykriehn3727 So. Given your druthers, what sort of accommodations should we make for the sewing machine setup in our once and future space? My thought is that whatever we do, it needs to be moveable and/or foldable. What say you? [7/13/2019 1:06 PM] mizgeek I agree. Moveable and/or foldable. Flexibility is important. In my opinion, sewing is part of many disciplines across Creative Arts. It’s important to sewing clothes, cosplay, traditional quilting, art quilts, toy making, fiber art... And all these may be practiced alone or classes. [7/13/2019 1:08 PM] mizgeek (And I have notifications turned on for this channel now. My apologies... my default is off.) [7/14/2019 3:01 PM] judykriehn3727 Well, I’m hosting Quiltpocalypse- the solo edition. [7/14/2019 3:01 PM] judykriehn3727 {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/600054368527581267/image0.jpg?ex=67b8dbad&is=67b78a2d&hm=6198545b2b5b781db46d69b93bba235cf90bbbdbb870e9f20e79ab5f472be301& [7/14/2019 5:46 PM] judykriehn3727 Fyi, sewing room is in disarray, and will remain that way for awhile. Weekends... we are seldom in the area. 😢 [7/14/2019 5:49 PM] judykriehn3727 People with daytime time on their hands are invited to pencil in the 23rd & 24th to inventory, weed out, and make a plan. {Reactions} 👌 👍 [7/22/2019 4:21 PM] judykriehn3727 Starting the inventory/purge in sewing tomorrow morning at 10 am. Feel free to join me! [7/22/2019 4:22 PM] sewingstuff2561 Man you’re always doing stuff on my work days. [7/22/2019 4:33 PM] judykriehn3727 Well, I didn't want to do it on my birthday... What days AREN'T workdays for you? [7/22/2019 4:47 PM] sewingstuff2561 Lol. Indeed. I’m off Wednesday and Thursday of this week. And Saturday because I switched shifts. [7/22/2019 4:50 PM] judykriehn3727 So... if I'm still struggling with what the hell to do in there, you might come hang out on Wednesday for a bit? Larry and I are going to visit a foot spa sometime that day (one of my bucket list items. they are so mysterious...) but nothing else on my agenda. [7/22/2019 4:51 PM] lavarocks. Did you get to play with the new machine yet? [7/22/2019 4:52 PM] lavarocks. Is today your birthday Judy? [7/22/2019 4:54 PM] sewingstuff2561 Yes I can definitely come by on Wednesday. [7/22/2019 6:07 PM] judykriehn3727 Yes it is my birthday. And no, haven't been to DMS yet. Because it's my birthday and I choose to not be a drama llama today. [7/22/2019 6:34 PM] merissa4308 Wooo!! Happy birthday Judy! 🎂 🎉 [7/22/2019 6:48 PM] sewingstuff2561 Of the 16 tubes that should be working in the seeing room, 10 are working. Probably all old floros. [7/22/2019 6:48 PM] sewingstuff2561 The lights per Erik. [7/22/2019 11:29 PM] judykriehn3727 Thank you @ESmith ! Another addition to my “spend some money” wish list to run by SIG and CA committee. The ceilings in there are a lot closer to the floor, so maybe @michaelb will play along? [7/22/2019 11:30 PM] agr0090 Don't know total, but there is at least 8 of the new LED tubes on logistics shelf [7/22/2019 11:32 PM] judykriehn3727 I’m guessing we need the new tombstone setups as well? Not that actually know diddly-squat about such things... [7/22/2019 11:39 PM] judykriehn3727 If anybody out there in Discord land was gonna come help with the sewing room tomorrow morning, I may be getting there later than originally planned. Since it looks like I may be a solo player, I’m gonna puts around elsewhere before arrival. [7/23/2019 12:41 AM] doug.emes Happy belated birthday [7/23/2019 5:32 AM] nullinterface {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/603172461567148050/IMG_20190722_211349438.jpg?ex=67b8fee1&is=67b7ad61&hm=9bdab2d9d9ddf7e418225344ee05d2b3bd5830735b49b07d0a7cc6234370a7e9& [7/23/2019 5:32 AM] nullinterface One of the pair of ballasts are likely out for the 3 fixtures with partial light [7/23/2019 5:33 AM] nullinterface Ideal solution: replace everything with LED [7/23/2019 9:17 AM] nullinterface so now that I'm at a Real Keyboard ™ ... [7/23/2019 9:18 AM] nullinterface the fixtures originally had two magnetic ballasts that each ran a pair of tubes - conveniently inboard and outboard. For the 3 fixtures with the inboard tubes out, that certainly means that the inboard ballast has failed. [7/23/2019 9:20 AM] nullinterface if Logistics has the supplies *(LED tubes, tombstones, wire - **especially wire**)* it's a ~30 minute task to replace all the fixtures and one only needs a short ladder [7/23/2019 9:33 AM] judykriehn3727 I’d like to have the SIG vote to cover the cost of materials this go-round. Logistics has a lot on their financial plate for the immediate future, and as an old lady who needs all the light she can get when using a sewing machine, I’d like to be sure we don’t end up at the bottom of the “worth our resources” list. I know @michaelb did a parts run when he helped operate on the Lecture Hall, so I figure he can help with cost estimating for budget purposes. [7/23/2019 9:36 AM] michaelb5250 I did, but we didn't use anything I bought 😂 [7/23/2019 9:36 AM] michaelb5250 It was all spare metal shop parts, @hon1nbo (k/j/t) exsilium would know [7/23/2019 9:38 AM] nullinterface there look to be LED tubes in stock, however I don't know who bought those [7/23/2019 9:38 AM] nullinterface also, I bought enough wire and almost enough tombstones circa 2017 to do most of DMS [7/23/2019 9:39 AM] nullinterface if I can find the time and I don't end up stealing anyone else's materials, I'll do it [7/23/2019 9:40 AM] nullinterface former conference room was swapped circa 2017 [7/23/2019 9:43 AM] nullinterface the wire is difficult to source - tombstones prefer 18ga or less which the likes of Home Despot don't stock in solid-core [7/23/2019 9:54 AM] yashsedai we have the wire [7/23/2019 9:54 AM] yashsedai plenty of wire {Reactions} 👍 [7/23/2019 10:09 AM] stansimmons2031 There are spools of wire in the lift basket. [7/23/2019 10:15 AM] judykriehn3727 Yay team! Wire lives! Just need to figure out the other stuff. [7/23/2019 10:18 AM] judykriehn3727 Metal budgeted $$ for changing out the horrible cave lights they had, so I’d assume the remaining tubes may have been part of their purchase. I think they piggybacked -their- order on some purchases made by expansion. But nonetheless, @hon1nbo (k/j/t) exsilium may be my budgetary source? I’ll also check with Tim b [7/23/2019 10:20 AM] hon1nbo We still have more of metal to do but spared a few for the lecture hall since it was pretty bad in there. We need to do our middle fixtures and one in the corner still. Unsure how many bulbs are left [7/23/2019 10:20 AM] hon1nbo But there is ton of wire and a baggie of tombstones [7/23/2019 10:30 AM] judykriehn3727 Just so I can make budgeting prognostications, how much $$ should I plan for to do four fixtures and outfit with new tubes? [7/23/2019 10:32 AM] yashsedai 1 MILLLIOOOONNNNN DOLLARS [7/23/2019 10:40 AM] hon1nbo Ask Chris Marlow or Steve Blanchard. Orders were last done through them [7/23/2019 11:01 AM] nullinterface tubes can be had for ~$10 each, tombstones <$1 each and wire perhaps $0.20 worth per fixture [7/23/2019 11:11 AM] nullinterface ~$45 per fixture is a lower-end estimate [7/23/2019 11:15 AM] nullinterface has typically been a logistics responsibility no matter where in the building [7/23/2019 12:04 PM] judykriehn3727 Thanks Freddy. [7/23/2019 12:09 PM] yashsedai yw [7/23/2019 12:44 PM] judykriehn3727 (Drips sarcasm liberally all over Freddy’s floor) [7/23/2019 1:02 PM] lavarocks. Happy belated bday Julie [7/23/2019 1:13 PM] judykriehn3727 Me? [7/23/2019 1:13 PM] judykriehn3727 If so thank you! There was cake involved. [7/23/2019 3:00 PM] lavarocks. Damn autocorrect! Happy birthday Judy. [7/23/2019 3:01 PM] lavarocks. I have fat fingers, it was probably user error [7/23/2019 4:00 PM] stansimmons2031 FYI: I've gotten a couple of complete LED fixtures from HomeDepot for $54 in single quantities, just in case the fixtures are damaged, etc. [7/23/2019 5:16 PM] judykriehn3727 Whatever we do,I want it to consistent with rest of the space so we’re only stocking one type of tube. [7/23/2019 9:42 PM] lavarocks. You said tube [7/23/2019 10:09 PM] judykriehn3727 Is that bad? I was referring to fluorescent tubes. [7/24/2019 8:38 AM] nullinterface if you're talking *amplifiers* the audiophiles will insist tubes are the only way to fly [8/4/2019 11:13 PM] judykriehn3727 I goofed up. Apparently, when I was slaving over a SIG meeting posting for this Wednesday the 7th at 7 pm, I only imagined posting it elsewhere... ack. I hope somebody shows up. Pretty please? [8/4/2019 11:14 PM] mizgeek I will be there 😀 [8/9/2019 12:41 PM] judykriehn3727 FYI, we approved table purchases and lighting upgrade at CA meeting last night. [8/9/2019 1:06 PM] nullinterface neat. so I guess some tall fella gets to do the work. [8/9/2019 1:25 PM] sinless5555 Woo! [8/9/2019 1:37 PM] yashsedai So who is doing your lighting upgrade? [8/9/2019 1:46 PM] nullinterface probably this guy [8/9/2019 1:49 PM] canibalcrab Or me and @michaelb [8/9/2019 1:49 PM] canibalcrab But with ladders. Because the lift is a hassle [8/9/2019 1:58 PM] kenpurcell Does the lift actually work? [8/9/2019 2:03 PM] michaelb5250 It works, just has an old battery that we forget the charge [8/9/2019 2:04 PM] michaelb5250 No real need for it with the short cielings though. [8/9/2019 2:04 PM] michaelb5250 Ceilings? [8/9/2019 2:06 PM] nullinterface yeah, 6 or 8' ladder is fine in there [8/9/2019 2:06 PM] nullinterface I did the former conference room standing on the table [8/9/2019 3:06 PM] judykriehn3727 Only obstacle now is who will order the appropriate stuff. Hartnett just talks in circles and doesn’t answer the question. [8/9/2019 3:07 PM] canibalcrab Working on it [8/9/2019 3:07 PM] canibalcrab Gonna get a bunch to have on hand for requests [8/9/2019 3:09 PM] judykriehn3727 I talked to Patty about the price for the tables with the sewing machine drop. We can get all three she has in stock for less than what we budgeted for two. Woot! [8/9/2019 9:06 PM] mizgeek Yay! [8/11/2019 12:04 PM] sinless5555 Sweet! [8/11/2019 12:05 PM] sinless5555 I’m going to miss Quiltpocalypse today [8/11/2019 12:36 PM] judykriehn3727 Sad trombone... Hope you get to do something awesome instead! [8/11/2019 3:46 PM] doug.emes Sorry Jen and I are missing it, bad health day for my sweetie. [8/11/2019 8:24 PM] judykriehn3727 Hope good health days return soon! [8/26/2019 5:43 PM] sinless5555 Anyone know where the spray starch is hiding? [8/26/2019 7:43 PM] judykriehn3727 Apparently we were out. I have two bottles in my car to deliver that I picked up at Wally World a couple of days ago. Sorry. I suck as a sig leader. [8/26/2019 9:00 PM] sinless5555 Lol, it’s ok. I found the almost dead spray bottle on top of the painting cabinet in a box with a bunch of big bottles of acrylic paint once I had decided to charge ahead with my fabric cutting. [8/26/2019 9:00 PM] sinless5555 I forgot to hop on here and say something when I did though [8/26/2019 9:09 PM] judykriehn3727 Hey - did Greg ever manage to print whatever he was futzing with the other day? [8/26/2019 9:38 PM] doug.emes Matt did the other day, dunno about Greg [8/26/2019 10:03 PM] sinless5555 Yeah, he had to have Mark Reynolds do it from his android phone I think but it got done. [8/26/2019 10:03 PM] sinless5555 It was not working from iOS though. [8/26/2019 10:13 PM] sinless5555 Oh wait. Apparently Mark had to send them to Stan to get printing done [8/27/2019 8:41 AM] andrew5152 @Lavarocks just curious: do you REALLY find threading Thor a bigger PITA then "normal" sewing machines? I didn't find it all that intimidating compared to those in my home, so just curious... [8/27/2019 8:48 AM] lavarocks. Yes, it is about as bad as threading a serger. I recorded Matt showing us how to do it and the video was 12 mins long. [8/27/2019 8:48 AM] lavarocks. It isn't intimidating, it is just a lot of steps [8/27/2019 8:56 AM] andrew5152 OK. fair enough. and, just perusing what's available, and remembering it's been...like...100 years since I threaded it... I'll probably need a refresher before I can do it again... 😊 or at least someone to go "yeah, BEHIND that disk, dummy"... [8/27/2019 9:06 AM] judykriehn3727 As the owner of four sewing machines, I can attest that if you string it up incorrectly, the machine doesn’t sew correctly. So I would say the ANXIETY of getting it right makes it ntimidating. [8/27/2019 8:07 PM] judykriehn3727 So here’s what I’ve been doing this evening: [8/27/2019 8:07 PM] judykriehn3727 {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616076368329048084/image0.jpg?ex=67b92354&is=67b7d1d4&hm=7b7b2c457e4034f97ef8e09e46cecb30b1be2bb8b507e16ed8093d2bdf6f9a6d& [8/27/2019 8:07 PM] judykriehn3727 {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616076415682740234/image0.jpg?ex=67b9235f&is=67b7d1df&hm=510732d6e187e9b4015707e8eb66100a8bdf8db21ca926ac6461e76acca2c51c& [8/27/2019 8:07 PM] judykriehn3727 {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616076466538545153/image0.jpg?ex=67b9236b&is=67b7d1eb&hm=a53bc2f726456666b860c8992cb77cf4b28467a6ce32598bedf4737049b6e42d& [8/27/2019 8:08 PM] judykriehn3727 {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616076520821096448/image0.jpg?ex=67b92378&is=67b7d1f8&hm=791ffd2f35313de805a88764a52f98474528de8d72bda0963c6f59c94046f393& [8/27/2019 8:10 PM] judykriehn3727 Kris had donated a bunch of thread. It was sitting in a beat up cardboard box. So I sorted out the existing serger cones by color and stashed them in plastic bins, then put two bins I had bought at IKEA on impulse and sorted the smaller spools into those. Yay me. {Reactions} 🕺 [8/27/2019 8:12 PM] judykriehn3727 I also washed the mirror down and put starch and a groovy water mister in the cabinet. {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616077691640086532/image0.jpg?ex=67b9248f&is=67b7d30f&hm=53c6aa525e04295560ff8e1d8b487280804312d3ce0788ccaba00765887cf13f& {Reactions} ♥ [8/27/2019 8:26 PM] sinless5555 Sweet! [8/28/2019 9:24 AM] judykriehn3727 A HUGE thank you to whomever either made two new feet or found a source to purchase new feet for the ping-pong-table-cutting-table! It’s pretty awesome to have a non-wobbly table that is LEVEL. [8/28/2019 12:09 PM] stephenie. One of the reasons I joined the space was it had tables long enough to cut fabric and support long pieces while sewing. [8/28/2019 12:09 PM] stephenie. The news about the ping pong table is welcome [8/28/2019 12:25 PM] mizgeek Yes! Let my thanks and cheers join in! [8/28/2019 12:28 PM] mizgeek Stephanie, it’s also one of the reasons I joined, too. [8/28/2019 1:44 PM] lavarocks. I like those counters they have at hobby lobby with the scissors channel [8/28/2019 1:46 PM] judykriehn3727 So just use the space between the tables? [8/28/2019 2:02 PM] lavarocks. It isn't magical that way [8/28/2019 3:16 PM] judykriehn3727 When I was a kid, all fabric cutting counters had these gizmos that the sales person pulled the end of the fabric into, then pulled it through sideways until the gauge on top showed the length needed. At this point, the clerk would mash down, and the gizmo would cut a notch. Which was then matched up to the cutting groove. [8/28/2019 3:18 PM] andrew5152 hm. that must predate me... 😄 [8/28/2019 4:57 PM] judykriehn3727 Or... your mother didn’t haul you to sewing departments. [8/28/2019 4:58 PM] mizgeek I remember those! [8/28/2019 4:58 PM] mizgeek But I’m ancient. 😁 [8/28/2019 5:00 PM] mizgeek My car is in the shop. We FINALLY got the part for it. Got rid of the Edge. There is hope I can play at the Space again one day. [8/28/2019 5:07 PM] andrew5152 hm. Nope. I remember fabric shopping with mommy, but they always just used the yardstick on the table thingy and cut along the aforementioned scissors channel (coolest sound in the world!) [8/28/2019 5:07 PM] andrew5152 so what part're we replacing? No, the ping pong table was missing two of four feet/levelers on the legs. But when I looked yesterday, we had feet on all four legs! Yay! Dunno if @AGr made them between moving shelves and bins around late at night, or whether @kriskat30 acquired them, or if some other sewing fairy godperson made it happen [8/28/2019 5:17 PM] andrew5152 sorry. replacement question was to @MizGeek re: having got car part [8/28/2019 5:17 PM] judykriehn3727 Oh wait. AC works great. Wayne has his butch dually Ford F-350. I won’t drive it. [8/28/2019 5:23 PM] judykriehn3727 @MizGeek Well, you *Are* a grandparent now. And Buick’s are popular with the grandparent set... {Reactions} 😁 😛 [8/28/2019 5:25 PM] andrew5152 M12 = metric, 12mm (major diameter, measured on the outside of the threads) 1.75 = 1.75 threads per mm [8/28/2019 5:26 PM] judykriehn3727 (WHOOSH) [8/28/2019 5:28 PM] mizgeek 😝 [8/28/2019 5:28 PM] andrew5152 Really? Because lack of interest? Or do those words really hold no meaning? I love modern fasteners; they're so uniform! [8/28/2019 5:35 PM] judykriehn3727 I get the diameter, and i assume it could be determined with a micrometer. Preferably one that hasn’t been utilized as a clamp. but How the thread size knowledge happens? [8/28/2019 5:37 PM] judykriehn3727 My method is looking at the pictures. Or comparing something I’ve removed with options at the hardware store. [8/28/2019 5:37 PM] agr0090 could measure them, but mainly you grab the thread gauge thing and see which one it screws into {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616400925619126466/mwAa3NyryQbVIacYwLMv_2dTOXwuXKByM-J-2XTvU3I6wadOI7yU-fI2zyLbY-nClsSGFZc17-ObZiN6UnTIzCUvb10g_TtlAtlR.png?ex=67b90018&is=67b7ae98&hm=da94415e3a82b0fbe341ef687205bcf839fc97278348ca9d6c4633615e8a928d& [8/28/2019 5:39 PM] judykriehn3727 We have one of those? I’m relieved it has a technical name that is sooo close to “thingie”. There’s hope for me yet! [8/28/2019 5:41 PM] andrew5152 baring that, a wrench set and thread gauge set will get most fasteners measured. Use the wrenches slipped over the threads to find the major diameter, then the thread gauge set to figure the pitch {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/616402033658036224/iu.png?ex=67b90121&is=67b7afa1&hm=a7ab701ae7c1a5c666c31e53f762c4d5eda94014f9eb41274e786a8631f3c880& [9/4/2019 10:09 PM] judykriehn3727 Fyi: Amanda has a class planned for Saturday for the Babylock embroidery sewing machine. Depends on grandchild coverage for mom’s first week back to work. [9/18/2019 9:52 PM] judykriehn3727 We had a whopping crowd of four at the SIG meeting tonight. Here's what we voted on: {Reactions} 🤔 [9/18/2019 9:56 PM] judykriehn3727 Purchase two more sergers (same model as existing two) so there is a better pool of effective machines available for serger classes. (currently Astrud schleps in machines in her personal collection to augment the two DMS owns - but having similar-but-differing operating systems makes class a bit more challenging.) This will be presented at the CA meeting next month and considered for approval before we make the purchase. [9/18/2019 9:57 PM] judykriehn3727 Voted to decommission the six Janome Magnolia sewing machines, since we now have a full complement of Babylock ZEST machines. This will allow at least *some* of the machines to be in relatively decent working order for resale purposes. [9/18/2019 9:59 PM] judykriehn3727 Decided to return REX the leather machine to its' owner. It's not a great machine to begin with, and since THOR joined the family, he's sort of the cousin that nobody likes anymore. Because, THOR! [9/18/2019 10:02 PM] judykriehn3727 Made a plan to phase out the Babylock embroidery machine in the next 6-12 months, then return to its' owner. DMS owns the Viking machine donated by a dealer in Tulsa, OK. While the machines are both embroidery machines, they do not operate in the same manner. Teaching two different machines will not be very good use of teacher/volunteer time, as they have to be taught separately. [9/18/2019 10:24 PM] doug.emes Which viking model offhand or do I need to dig on the wiki [9/19/2019 6:52 AM] sinless5555 It’s a Husqvarna Viking Designer SE (from Oklahoma City 😉 ) [9/19/2019 6:53 AM] kenpurcell Thanks for the update @judy Kriehn [9/19/2019 7:06 AM] nullinterface Husqvarna - a company that makes many flavors of outdoor power equipment *and* sewing machines [9/19/2019 7:15 AM] andrew5152 wikipedia be believed they make sewing machines (also, a slew of outdoor power equipment). Pfaff and Viking Sewing machines built since they merged are basically identical except for the color of the shell. {Reactions} 👍 [9/19/2019 9:56 AM] andrew5152 I was trying to figure out WHERE they build them... (not because it necessarily matters, but if one were to wish to limit the USD one is sending to certain governments, one might like to know these things) [9/19/2019 10:21 AM] nullinterface Badge Engineering - *no longer just for automobiles* [9/19/2019 10:44 AM] judykriehn3727 In a discussion with a sewing machine guy who "knows things" they are all "built" in China. US headquarters is in Ohio, last I heard. Pfaff equipment still bears "German Engineering" badge, but even that is becoming a stretch. [9/19/2019 10:47 AM] judykriehn3727 Low-end machines (i.e. inexpensive) for just about all home-sewing machines have been China-built as long as that's been something I cared about. Some companies, like Bernina, still build their flagship machines in their home countries, but I'd wager parts may still be manufactured elsewhere. [9/19/2019 10:53 AM] andrew5152 You said what I was thinking...and you have better expertise AND better connections. Like most things (seems to me) these days, even if they were "made in XXX", the parts they used in XXX to 'make' them might themselves be made elsewhere. [9/19/2019 1:39 PM] sinless5555 Bernina’s stuff that’s not out of Switzerland comes from Thailand (that’s my useless trivia for today) {Reactions} 👍 [9/19/2019 1:43 PM] andrew5152 I have an old bernina. Never knew they were a thing til recently. [9/19/2019 7:59 PM] judykriehn3727 Except for the fact that the old ones don’t use the same feet as the newer ones, they’re pretty awesome machines. [9/19/2019 8:20 PM] andrew5152 Mine needs a new home (because I never have used it, really, and have another that will likely be "the one", which I ALSO never get to use) but there's some sentimentality in it, having belonged to my mother (during her "lean years" it put food on her table)... [9/19/2019 8:24 PM] mizgeek Nothing sadder than an unused machine. 😮 [9/19/2019 8:26 PM] andrew5152 except, probably, my ham-fisted efforts... pretty sure I do it all wrong. But I have gotten a few usable things out of it (the Bernina)... [9/19/2019 8:26 PM] andrew5152 But not for the last...decade...or so... [9/19/2019 8:27 PM] mizgeek Most of us are faking it. Just have fun. 😀 {Reactions} 👌 [9/19/2019 8:33 PM] judykriehn3727 If it’s mechanical, you might ask @stephenie if she’s interested. [9/19/2019 8:35 PM] judykriehn3727 Her machine has decided to only sew in reverse. She dislikes computerized machines [9/19/2019 8:35 PM] mizgeek Or me 😝 [9/19/2019 8:35 PM] andrew5152 by mechanical, do you mean treadle op? It's electric. Probably from...1960sish, I would guess... [9/19/2019 8:36 PM] mizgeek She wins! Mine work, I just haven’t replace my mechanical that was stolen. [9/19/2019 8:36 PM] judykriehn3727 No, electric, controlled with knobs rather than computerized touch screen. [9/19/2019 8:37 PM] andrew5152 it's this one, if I recall properly https://www.raisin-toast.com/in_the_studio/2011/04/memories-of-a-bernina.html {Embed} https://www.raisin-toast.com/in_the_studio/2011/04/memories-of-a-bernina.html In the Studio: Memories of a Bernina When I was 6 years old, my father bought my mother a wonderful gift for Christmas - a Bernina Sewing Machine. My mother loved to sew and prior to her Bernina, she had a trusty black Singer sewing machine that she used often. My father knew that she would enjoy a top-of-the-li... [9/19/2019 8:37 PM] judykriehn3727 The Pfaff in the sewing room is mechanical. The embroidery machine is computerized. [9/19/2019 8:38 PM] judykriehn3727 Yep! Good bare bones mechanical. [9/19/2019 8:38 PM] andrew5152 I have no idea what I'd do with one with a computer on it [9/19/2019 8:38 PM] andrew5152 😄 [9/19/2019 8:39 PM] mizgeek My computerized is like 20 years old and still kicking. I just want a metal mechanical for quilting and some other stuff. [9/19/2019 8:41 PM] judykriehn3727 All four of mine are computerized. [9/19/2019 8:41 PM] judykriehn3727 The oldest one is around 25 years old. [9/19/2019 8:41 PM] mizgeek -bows to the queen- {Reactions} ☝ [9/19/2019 11:10 PM] lavarocks. If anyone has a singer featherweight they want to give away I'm always here. I'm just sayin. [9/19/2019 11:10 PM] lavarocks. 😂 [9/19/2019 11:10 PM] mizgeek Already got rid of mine. Never used it. [9/19/2019 11:11 PM] lavarocks. Sad face [9/19/2019 11:11 PM] lavarocks. It is the best of the old machines to sew dog collars [9/19/2019 11:17 PM] judykriehn3727 Have you tried sewing a dog collar with the Pfaff 130? [9/19/2019 11:19 PM] judykriehn3727 I got rid of my Featherweight as well. I used it once, and my toe was so tired by the end of that relatively puny quilt that I never used it again. Despite being lectured regularly about its virtues by Jack the repair guy. (now deceased.) [9/20/2019 6:21 PM] judykriehn3727 FYI gang: Matt is planning to bring a commercial (garment-type) sewing machine to the space. Sewing room will be getting more cramped. More furniture rearranging to take place. [9/20/2019 9:13 PM] sinless5555 Hoo boy that’s going to get tight [9/20/2019 9:24 PM] judykriehn3727 Ik,R? [9/20/2019 9:26 PM] judykriehn3727 I’m thinking I might try them back-to-back to the right of the door. [9/20/2019 9:28 PM] sinless5555 Yeah, that could work [9/20/2019 9:47 PM] lavarocks. Pardon my ignorance. Do you need the ping pong table for what you do? [9/20/2019 10:12 PM] sinless5555 We need some kind of big wide area that hasn’t been fouled with glue/paint/toenails/etc. to cut fabric out [9/21/2019 12:22 AM] judykriehn3727 And just think. An intended to have the entire ping pong table setup ALL THE TIME, buy a machine like Matt is donating, and everything else. Woulda been a Tetris adventure every time someone went in... [9/26/2019 1:49 PM] judykriehn3727 I have many UFO’’s that can illustrate that axiom. [9/26/2019 1:58 PM] apparently_weird In a volunteer run organization I’m sure no one knows what you’re talking about. 😉 I need to work on some furniture anyways, and could use a miniature design like this as an end table. Let me see what I can come up with, then sewing can see if they’d be interested in a larger version. [9/27/2019 10:21 AM] judykriehn3727 Might look online for plans as well. Chris Marlowe found something similar when I was looking for sewing tables. [11/5/2019 9:18 AM] sinless5555 Does 5 spaces sound like a reasonable number for a sewing 101 or should it be 4? I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew for my first attempt [11/5/2019 2:52 PM] judykriehn3727 Well, Beth had a beginner class a couple of weeks ago with five spaces, and had two no-shows. Naturally, mileage may vary, but it’s something to consider. You might ask the other Cindy what her experience has been. [11/5/2019 3:09 PM] sinless5555 Ok [11/8/2019 3:12 PM] sinless5555 Any idea why the CA Sewing Room says do not use for booking a class? I can put it in the studio but I wanted to know why it’s listed that way [11/8/2019 5:51 PM] doug.emes It's old remnant. Will get it resolved this weeekend [11/8/2019 5:51 PM] doug.emes Please book it [11/8/2019 8:18 PM] sinless5555 I booked for the studio. I’ll get it changed once it’s approved and the listing’s changed [11/8/2019 11:48 PM] judykriehn3727 You can actually book the room even though it says not to. [11/8/2019 11:49 PM] judykriehn3727 FYI - I had originally had the caveat placed on the room before we had functional furniture. Forgot it was there. Then the people who "know things" got busy with other honey-do's. [11/9/2019 10:21 AM] sinless5555 Totally understand [11/10/2019 3:28 AM] talkers @doug.emes I fixed the room title the other day after seeing this post. But I thought it was a talk post and could not close the loop with you until now [11/10/2019 10:06 AM] doug.emes Awesome, thank you sir [11/10/2019 11:19 AM] sinless5555 I don’t think I’m going to make Quiltpocalypse today 😦 I’m just wiped out [11/10/2019 2:31 PM] mizgeek I’m out of town per usual. I have a cold anyway... voluntary quarantine in a hotel room with room service that has pho. 😆 [11/10/2019 10:04 PM] talkers Hi. That'd the status on the Viking? I saw on the listed of tools we have. Do we have a trainer? @Hardsuit has one. Amanda R does a lot of embroidery & classes. I bet she would like to go thru the manual and videos. I would offer, but will not have time for a couple of weeks. [11/10/2019 10:07 PM] talkers The Consew looks really nice. Kris and Matt made a video on how to thread and use it. I'll link it on wiki and share on talk. Chris Marlow already linked the manual. I'll add a great article that reviews it and breaks down all the functions. Re origin stories: consew is made by Seiko in Japan. [11/11/2019 5:00 PM] judykriehn3727 I let Amanda take the Viking home for a couple of weeks to explore. She is officially familiar, but has not officially decided what her teaching commitment will be. Chris M has one like it, and has made an effort to prevent loss of key doodads like the stylus. [11/11/2019 5:01 PM] judykriehn3727 I have no desire to do embroidery at this juncture in life. [11/11/2019 5:04 PM] judykriehn3727 Amanda notes that it is not like the brother at all, so trying to intro both at the same time wouldn’t be effective. The SIG voted to phase the Brother out within a year for that reason, since it is not DMS-owned equipment. [11/11/2019 8:25 PM] talkers Def a good idea to focus on one machine. [1/27/2020 12:04 PM] judykriehn3727 Meeting scheduled for 02/04 in sewing room at 7 pm [1/28/2020 9:09 PM] mizgeek It’s on my calendar 🙂 [1/30/2020 2:59 PM] sinless5555 Can anyone hazard a guess to where a French curve might be found at DMS? [1/30/2020 7:08 PM] judykriehn3727 Allegedly, the curves that were purchased for the pattern-making classes are in the teaching cabinet. I’ve not seen any though... there -might- be one in the cabinet on one of the shelves, either under other stuff or against the side. [2/2/2020 9:02 PM] lavarocks. Yes, they used to be in there in the back of the top shelf. [3/6/2020 11:53 AM] abnoba12 I have two trashbags full of random material. Its all random stuff and random sizes. Any one want them, if not then they will probably end up in the trash? [3/27/2020 3:09 PM] michaelb5250 @judy Kriehn I think I remember a show and tell recently where you did a quilt with some sort of print to fabric service and highlighted the outlines in the quilting? Where'd you find a printer to do that? [3/27/2020 3:13 PM] michaelb5250 Oops, sorry, found the post! Upper fabric with photos, bottom fabric, a nice border, batting in between, and then sitting down and outlining the photos with stitching to hold it all in place. [3/29/2020 1:23 PM] judykriehn3727 Cool. I can help with that process. [3/29/2020 1:28 PM] michaelb5250 I will have to gather willpower, pictures, and fabric first so it might be some time, but I will definitely be needing advice when I get started. [4/4/2020 6:24 PM] judykriehn3727 Hey gang, if anybody out there would be interested in a bias tape making jig, Mike Churchill will do the 3D printing and leave it in his mailbox for pickup. [4/5/2020 12:06 PM] mell.jpg Is there a general consensus on the best type of cloth face masks to sew? There are SO many patterns out there. Just a matter of personal preference? [4/5/2020 3:39 PM] canibalcrab I think fabric matters more than style [4/5/2020 3:40 PM] mell.jpg K. I've got that covered then. [4/5/2020 3:40 PM] canibalcrab Someone was testing them with an aresol perfume sprayer and if sprayed on one side from 8-12 inches and it goes through the fabric, it's not very helpful [4/5/2020 3:41 PM] canibalcrab I don't know that it's a legit test though but it's a good place to start [4/5/2020 3:42 PM] mell.jpg I'm seeing a lot of recommendations of two layers of quilting cotton and then a layer of flannel in the middle. I’m personally underwhelmed with the pleated designs. Lots of work, but they don’t seem to fit very well. I like the fit of the design from the Japanese blogger and/or the Olson design. But it is time-consuming. The one I found easiest to work with is the one Clover has posted on their website. It looks weird by itself, but actually seems to fit pretty well. That I found easier to make. [4/5/2020 7:38 PM] judykriehn3727 General consensus is the highest thread count fabric you can get your hands on is the best. For example, commercial batik fabrics are quite high thread count. [4/5/2020 7:41 PM] judykriehn3727 Flannel isn’t generally high thread count off the bolt, but after washing it shrinks -making the fabric a bit denser, plus the fuzziness inherent in flannel may be an additional germ catcher. [4/5/2020 7:42 PM] judykriehn3727 No woven interfacing (pellon, for example) is also recommended as a good liner. [4/5/2020 7:47 PM] judykriehn3727 While a lot of people have dissed tshirt fabric as full of holes, that actually varies by shirt. A threadbare tshirt you’ve had since 1985 is probably not a good choice. But a relatively newish tshirt, whether a blend or all cotton, is actually pretty dense. And since it doesn’t ravel, it can be a bit easier to work with. A friend in Austin has been using strips of tshirt to make the mask ties, since they have “give” like elastic does. Very similar to the one from the Japanese blogger. [4/5/2020 7:55 PM] judykriehn3727 More info than you wanted, huh @mell ? {Reactions} 😄 (2) [4/5/2020 8:02 PM] mell.jpg Exactly the kind of info I was looking for Judy! Just made one of the pleated styles and I hate the fit. [4/5/2020 8:43 PM] judykriehn3727 If you want to use elastic, the info on how long it should be is not very consistent or helpful. But since now it appears the backs of everybodys ears hurt from the behind-the-ear variety anyway, I think making earloops intentionally long and then make a short piece of "tie" to connect the earloops in back. [4/5/2020 9:12 PM] mell.jpg I made another pleated one with some added wire to the nose bridge section and that little bit made a big difference in fit for me. And just made it with ties bc I had a TON of bias tape I was kinda saving for a project. [4/5/2020 9:12 PM] mell.jpg But Alex reminded me it has been an unfinished project for something like 2 years ...😆 {Reactions} dms [4/5/2020 9:13 PM] mell.jpg I think I'll try the Clover one next. [4/5/2020 11:25 PM] ferricyanide7475 Anyone selling these? I've been pretty busy and don't have the time to make my own, also very beginner level sewing skills. I saw some of the pleated ones on Facebook, but it seems yall haven't been too impressed. Basically i have limited occasional contact with my grandpa and i don't want to risk him getting sick. (We might be working out how to have less contact, i have horses at his place and he knows nothing about them). [4/6/2020 9:53 AM] judykriehn3727 They have a pup tent in the pasture? [4/6/2020 10:15 AM] andrew5152 wouldn't that make it more of a foal tent? [4/6/2020 10:53 AM] ferricyanide7475 ? I just drive out there every day currently [4/6/2020 11:05 AM] kentamanos Just guessing, but I think they're confused about the part where you said your grandpa "knows nothing about them"? Do you mean he doesn't know how to care for the horses or their presence? {Reactions} 👍 [4/6/2020 11:06 AM] andrew5152 (I think we were making jokes about how your grandpa doesn't know anything about them...like...they're just living in a tent in the pasture...well...it made me giggle, but maybe wasn't that funny...) [4/6/2020 11:07 AM] kentamanos I read it as their presence was unknown as well at first...hehe [4/6/2020 11:09 AM] andrew5152 I'd seen it mentioned somewhere that Grandpa was able to put water and/or feed into a bucket, but wasn't really able to do much beyond that, so I guess I kinda knew he was aware of their existence and less-so equipped for participating beyond the most basic food & water provision. {Reactions} 👍 [4/6/2020 11:33 AM] michaelb5250 It's much more fun to imagine someone hiding a group of horses in an abandoned barn or something {Reactions} 😄 [4/6/2020 11:34 AM] ferricyanide7475 Ohhhh yeah.... he knows they're there. He'll pet them and feed them food and treats. They would be kinda hard to hide lol {Reactions} 👍 [4/6/2020 11:34 AM] ferricyanide7475 The barn is pretty old lol, but my gelding is obnoxious and loud [4/6/2020 1:13 PM] judykriehn3727 Proof that @A. Spencer(jast) and I were separated at birth. I read the sentence as you had horses at you grandpas place but he didn’t know they were there. I gather you actually meant masks. [4/6/2020 1:16 PM] judykriehn3727 But you gotta admit, it’s funny. I picture horses sneaking from tree to tree, fence post to fence post, being “stealth stallions”. (I once heard a presentation by a children’s book author who showed the kids slides from his home. He had a photo of his horse behind a fence post, and told the kids that the horse figured if he couldn’t see you, you couldn’t see him.) {Reactions} 🤣 [4/6/2020 1:59 PM] judykriehn3727 I keep trying to get out of the unpaid mask-making business, but I suppose I can make a couple more. What part of metro mess do you live in? I’m in garland. [4/6/2020 3:35 PM] ferricyanide7475 I was looking to actually pay for them. I live in Arlington but euless seems to be a more accurate way to decided [4/6/2020 3:35 PM] ferricyanide7475 Describe ny location* [4/6/2020 3:36 PM] ferricyanide7475 i don't mind picking them up, i have to go to his place in Segoville, i could just take the long way around [4/6/2020 5:27 PM] judykriehn3727 Meh to payment. Maybe someday i can pet your horses? Do you have color preference or dislike? I assume you want one for yourself and for your grandpa? [4/6/2020 5:51 PM] ferricyanide7475 Yeah, one really likes pets and scratches. The other seems pretty meh about them but they are both would definitely say hi if you had a horse cookie (i have a big bag). It would have to be after this virus thing subsides my grandpa isn't big on having strangers over at the moment. (Normally he is a huge chatty people person that loves to talk your ear off). Yeah that would be fine. I prefer not orange or yellow but i wouldn't complain or say no if those were all you had. [4/6/2020 6:13 PM] judykriehn3727 Clearly you are unfamiliar with fabric stashes. I have much. Of just about all colors. Well, the brown selection is limited, because, well, BROWN. Brown animals, cool. Brown hair, cool. Brown fabric, bleah. [4/6/2020 6:14 PM] mizgeek Stashes of fabric? 😱 [4/6/2020 6:20 PM] mizgeek My joy right now after trying three different patterns to fit Wayne is making loops out of a sliced up T-shirts. If these loops don’t behave flipping out, they may just be serged and left showing stitches. 🤪 [4/6/2020 6:30 PM] mell.jpg Just finished the Olson one. Generally a much better fit. Thanks for the suggestion @judy Kriehn ! And while there were a few more steps to follow I think it's just as easy as the pleated ones. [4/6/2020 6:31 PM] mizgeek I’m using the craftpassion one on myself and a large Fu one on Wayne. [4/6/2020 6:35 PM] mizgeek I’ll try an Olson next just for fun 😄 [4/6/2020 6:42 PM] hardsuit Tried making a custom printed oni face artwork mask one using the inkjet printable quilting fabric. It works but it's not super breathable [4/6/2020 6:44 PM] mizgeek I’m just using iron on Pellon interfacing on each side of quilting fabric. Not perfect, but usable for us and family [4/6/2020 6:44 PM] hardsuit {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/696868033724940359/JPEG_20200406_184442.jpg?ex=67b90fee&is=67b7be6e&hm=4391f69e5af3ed9c9041fa5a6aa4cf810006369dddb3ed29eea33f03f59be77c& {Reactions} 👏 [4/6/2020 7:19 PM] judykriehn3727 Since that printable fabric is the highest thread count fabric I own, I considered printing my own design -but then remember how heinous it is to deal with for just a flat label, and deleted that idea. That said, that is an awesome mask! Hand coloring it with intense or tsunieko would be fun. I'm jealous of the fabric stash. I have two real options of the fabric I happen to have on hand. Cupcakes and Star Wars. Can't really get anymore either, even walmart is completely out. {Reactions} ✌️ [4/7/2020 4:20 PM] mizgeek I’m just thrilled that two rooms of fabric (and a storage unit) are no longer hoarding... I’m PREPARED! 😁 {Reactions} 😂 [4/7/2020 4:21 PM] ladysandry haha i have other fabrics but mostly upholstery and suiting stuff, or just very stretchy stuff [4/7/2020 4:22 PM] ladysandry also...a storage unit??? [4/7/2020 4:22 PM] ladysandry lol [4/7/2020 6:27 PM] mizgeek Yeah... it fabric and misc art supplies. As I go through it, I’ve been moving things along. I used to have two big storage units. Now a little one of the fabric and art supplies and other one has household stuff. (On family property so not paying for it.) In my defense... my exhusband drank a lot and it was expensive imported beer and fine scotch. Whenever he bought alcohol, I spent money on my addictions... [4/8/2020 12:39 PM] judykriehn3727 @fairiecyanide - I have three masks finished for you. Do you have a foray to Seagoville planned in the near future? I could meet you in a parking lot somewhere along 635 to hand them off. Mesquite rodeo arena/Hampton Inn? Near one of the Garland exits? [4/8/2020 1:28 PM] judykriehn3727 New comment: There were a couple of postings yesterday regarding MultiCam seeking people to do sewing. The details were vague (at best) so I sent an inquiry. It isn't a volunteer job - it's a paid piecework project. To wit: **Good morning... We are looking for people to sew sleeves on gowns for doctors and nurses in the DFW area. They can work from home $3.00 per gown We are looking to start Thursday and will provide all materials needed Also, putting together instructions on what needs to be done ** If this sounds like something you can/want to do, the contact email address is: PPE@multicam.com The person who responded to me was Corie Clifton in the HR Dept. - corie@multicam.com [4/8/2020 2:06 PM] ferricyanide7475 I will be going that way today, friday, Saturday, Sunday. [4/8/2020 2:08 PM] ferricyanide7475 During the week probably leave my house between 4-5:30. Weekend it's whenever. [4/8/2020 2:10 PM] ferricyanide7475 @judy Kriehn wherever is fine, so long as i have an address it shouldn't be too hard [4/9/2020 11:57 AM] themitch22 i talked to someone there they are cuttiing the fabric on their fancy cnc cutters [4/9/2020 4:05 PM] judykriehn3727 I was wondering if they had identified a cutting bit for fabric. The fashion industry has had scary-looking saw cutters driven by humans for a long time. Computer driven makes TOTAL sense. [4/9/2020 4:30 PM] themitch22 there's a high rpm spinning carbide saw that cuts fabric really fast [4/9/2020 7:41 PM] judykriehn3727 UPDATE ON THE MULTICAM SEWING: [4/9/2020 7:42 PM] judykriehn3727 I got a note from a different person today. They have photos, samples, etc. (today was day one of the stitching frenzy). They are specifically looking for overlocking - aka serger users. @Hardsuit ? [4/10/2020 3:16 AM] hardsuit We're planning on throwing up a stream on TWITCH to show how to sew a fitted face mask Saturday night at 8pm Central (9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific). [6/2/2022 2:05 AM] charlesd1991 Costs $15 before tax and covers 4 sqft. The half-table is 22.5 sqft => would require 5.625 packs of 4 to cover => would cost a total of $90 to purchase 6 packs of cork tiles to cover the half-table 👀🤔 [6/5/2022 1:24 PM] engpin1964 {Attachments} https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/592862230165454848/983073804437831700/1A0C3060-574F-4B08-9BB6-DD3FAB2EACED.jpg?ex=67b96d93&is=67b81c13&hm=355af9236e03d600633ff47e14423b32c6d79308b9c854d6c44ad15fb6ae9d06& {Reactions} badge_sewing [6/5/2022 1:24 PM] engpin1964 At the space working with this old girl {Reactions} 🥰 [11/5/2023 6:47 PM] thelostone20 Hey is there anyone at the space that can do tailoring? [11/5/2023 11:05 PM] dryad2b While we may have some folks who *could* do tailoring, I'm not so sure about anyone who *would* do tailoring. @AmeliaG ? [11/5/2023 11:16 PM] shipwrek @TerryEB alterations and tailoring can be different things, do you need something done, or do you want to learn? [11/5/2023 11:18 PM] thelostone20 More like something done [11/6/2023 12:04 AM] dryad2b I'm too ADD to take on tailoring projects. [11/6/2023 2:18 PM] thelostone20 So are you saying that your the one that I come to if I want something to be tailored? [11/6/2023 2:20 PM] dryad2b I have issues finishing long projects like tailoring. Plus, my SO would pout if I were working on something that wasn't his pants and shirts. I've got a backlog of promised things there. [11/6/2023 5:57 PM] thelostone20 Oh ok do you know anyone else I can go to, to reshape or alter to size of coats and pants? ============================================================== Exported 504 message(s) ==============================================================
