It is my understanding that any group of people can just form a SiG ... they don't have to do anything special but do what they do .. if they want to have money or space or tools ... only committees can have those, so you can attach yourself to a committee and let that committee manage the stuff. But that committee can also sell off your SiGs stuff at will...

If youre looking ot get a MTG fix without people to play with, check out MTG Arena for PC. I think its a pretty easy to run game, but it teaches a lot about the rules and different stages to playing.

Also: Holy crap. I just checked prices on some of the beta and alpha cards that my friends used to play with. One guy had a pretty big box (probably 2 feet by 1 foot) of alpha and beta cards before unlimited came out. I know that he had at least one lotus and 4 mox. Probably kicks himself for playing with them as opposed to locking them away (if he even still owns them).

Most of the fun/annoying decks from back in the day are pretty much banned from any kind of official play. My Black and Blue Stasis Lock deck is a big no no these days

Id say any really. The players versus game style usually helps, but ive had a good time playing games like Settlers of Catan and Secret Hitler as well even though those are more pvp.

Rules, smules. Well I only found out after playing Risk with my dad for 40+ years that his cap on armies of 15 per country was not a standard rule. Another variation was to play multiple game boards with cross over points.

we scored the science portion on "7 Wonders" incorrectly for several (5+?) years and started doing it properly only in last couple of years.

Ran Jackbox games on top of zoom for family game night with 8 players. Worked pretty well, just a little hard to hear some people of the game audio. But have been itching to play Pandemic, family thinks it is in poor taste. Even if it is a collaborative game?!

Friend at work doing a web based Cards Against Humanity. Apparently there are git repos out there with every card text in every set. He showed me where he's at on it, but not ready to scale etc.

Been playing on Roll20 a lot

I used Roll20 for the first time in a group the other night. Had it integrated with the Beyond 20 Chrome plugin to integrate rolls from DND Beyond. It's not perfect, but it works pretty well.

Roll20 works pretty well. We use discord calls to supplement the r20 voice calling because it sucks

Yeah. that's what we did as well. One thing I couldn't find though was something showing areas of effect. If you're casting "Cone of Cold" or something, I'd like to see a triangle that shows what I'm going to hit. I'm not one of those guys that plays miniature games and pulls out strings to measure line of sight and distance etc., it just seems like it would have been trivial to add. It's also possible I'm super accustomed to the niceties of some CRPG's.

Yeah, we’ve been using it for a few years for one game (to keep in touch with friends after we moved down here) but it’s definitely having a #thankscovid19 moment. I’m very glad they seem to have gotten the servers a bit more stable again.

Yeah, first night we tried to use it was chaos. Guessing it was overwhelmed as the browser showed assets from S3 failing to come down.

Will be trying to run my first roll20 game this weekend.

Also been playing in a really fun West Marches style D&D group lately. Have never been to the DMS D&D nights but is that how the DMS DMs run it?

You don't need to use all the tools that roll 20 gives the DM, but it does make it handy

I think I made the best use of the fog tool and that was it during my trial runs of roll20

The DMS games are kind of West Marches style but there’s definite stories being worked through. It just gets handwaved if someone can’t be there/can’t play anymore

It's going well! One player may have died...

I offered to do some creative storytelling to undo it because I just felt so bad about it. First time I've ever killed a player and it was his first time playing. But he said nah and that it was a good thing for him to learn that his actions have consequences. Lol. So he rolled up a new character and is my sweet baby angel character that is so cautious all the time.

On another note, @Alex Rhodes and I were trying to move all of our campaigns to Foundry VTT but the game I run had so many issues bc they're all mostly less tech inclined and have much older computers so I'm still running it on roll20.

@NobleGoblin serious concerns though, the Roll20 website has had half a dozen security breaches, and I would not recommend it. I use the same passwords on a few different websites and they kept being compromised until I realized roll20 was the problem. I now use encrypted codes

the top is one piece cherry wood topper, that was a glue up, to look like a farm table and hide the nerdiness. we inlaid metal bars in the top of the actual play area for accessories and used rare earth magnets that matched the width of the bar from amazon, about .75 inch i believe
